Scholes Signs New Contract

Manchester United and former England midfielder Paul Scholes has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2009.

The 30-year-old former England international has been with United since the age of 14 and is now likely to see out his illustrious career as a Red Devil.

"Paul joined us when he was 14 and has given us 16 great years of service. We're delighted to give him a contract up to 34 years of age,"  said a delighted Sir Alex Ferguson.

He continued: "We hope his next four years is as good as his last four years. He has been a fantastic servant and that loyalty should be repaid. That's what we're trying to do.

"He looks after himself, is a good family man and he's never had any serious injuries. He had the odd knee injury, clean-out jobs, in the past but he's a strong, wee lad and he can overcome all these things."

Rio Ferdinand also committed his future by inking a new deal earlier this week, rubbishing rumours he's unhappy at Old Trafford.
