Rooney: Not a One-Horse Race

Wayne Rooney has insisted that Chelsea won't be the only team cruising through the Premiership this season following Manchester United's 2-0 win over Everton.

Rooney, who netted against his old club in the second half of the Premiership opener, has also been included in Sven Goran Eriksson's squad who face Denmark in a friendly next week.

The £30 million striker hit back at Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon's comments, stating: "There have been a few comments about a one-horse race. But it's rubbish really.

"This is a good start to the season, we've got a good squad here, but we have to keep it going for the rest of the season.

"We always knew it was going to be a tough game but getting the goal in the first half helped us a lot, and it was important we got the second one early on to kill the game off.

In reference to his return to Goodison Park, he added: "I'm fine, I'm a footballer with Manchester United and it's no problem coming back here. The fans are giving me stick but it's part and parcel of the game.

"I feel fit and sharp so, hopefully, I can carry on doing it for Manchester Unitd this season and take it into the World Cup."
