Smith on Target in Reserve Victory

Alan Smith started in midfield for Manchester United's Reserve side tonight against Bolton Wanderers, managing to find the back of the net, however it was Colin Heath who stole the show with a brace of goals.

Smith is currently in the process of being adapted to a holding midfielder as Sir Alex Ferguson looks for Roy Keane's successor in the middle of the field.

The forward completed an impressive 90 minutes in United's 3-0 win as he looks for a run in the first-team. Smith even rejected a place in Sven Goran Eriksson's England squad who face Denmark in a friendly to participate in this fixture.

Giuseppe Rossi, Wes Brown and Gerard Pique were also involved in the victory as they also look to catch the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson. Ex England international goalkeeper Ian Walker started for Wanderers' second-string.

It took 8 minutes to break the deadlock as Smith rounded off a good move before Colin Heath's piledriver evaded Ian Walker on the half-hour mark. Heath added a lucky goal for United later on in the game courtesy of the cross-bar.

The scoreline doesn't reflect some fine goalkeeping from Ian Walker, who denied Rossi on a number of occasions.
