Billy Davies looks set to hand on-loan United midfielder David Jones a chance in the Preston North End first-team. The nippy midfielder is spending a year-long loan spell with the Championship club and is desperate for regular football.

Preston North End manager Billy Davies looks set to through on-loan Manchester United midfielder David Jones into his first-team after the Lancastrian side continue a slow start to their Football League Championship campaign.

Southport-born Jones is spending a year on loan at Preston in a move that will give him some much-needed first-team football. He has impressed in the reserves at Deepdale and could be set for appearances in England's second-flight which would catch the attention of Sir Alex Ferguson and the coaching staff at Old Trafford.

"There were one or two very good performances last night, in particular David Jones who is coming on leaps and bounds as every day goes by. This young lad will certainly force his way in I would imagine." said Davies, full of admiration for the 20-year-old.
