Manchester United will be looking to pick up an opening 3 points Spain against Villarreal on Day One of the Champions League proper.

The game has been billed as Diego Forlan's big night against his old club, where he has gone from strength to strength since leaving Old Trafford last summer.

Forlan struggled as a Red Devil but emerged as a fan favourite, impressing the United faithful with his sheer determination and perserverence. He's now technically one of the best strikers in Europe, finishing as La Liga's top goalscorer last term.

It'll also be an interesting night for Villarreal boss Manuel Pellegrini, who turned down a senior coaching position with United to manage the Spaniards.

Overall, Villarreal have a solid squad including many internationals, and knocked out Everton in the 3rd round of qualifying.

Meanwhile, Lille and Benfica face each other in Portugal in the other opening game of Group D.

Team News:
Despite reports claiming Cristiano Ronaldo will spend more time in Portugal with his mother after his father passes away, the winger is in Spain with United. Skipper Roy Keane is a major doubt.

Villarreal may have to do without Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme, who suffered a knock against Sevilla. "It is the match of the season and my desire is to play," stated Riquelme.

Also, Jose Maria Romero Poyon is suspended for the hosts.

ManUtdWeb Prediction:
Villarreal will provide the toughest opposition of the group and can cause an upset on the day. If United keep possession, create chances and get wide I'm sure we'll win 2-1, with Forlan getting their goal!
