Ruud: Benfica Shocked Us

Wednesday night's hero Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted Benfica's second-half equaliser in United's eventual 2-1 win over the Portuguese champions shocked the team.

The Dutchman's 85th minute goal ended a tough week on and off the field for the Red Devils after fans turned on United's management and the management turned on the Old Trafford faithful.

Assistant boss Carlos Queiroz criticized his own fans for booing the team in their dismal 2-1 loss to Blackburn last weekend.

Van Nistelrooy stated: "We dominated the game but we were shocked by the equaliser and people may have thought 'here we go again' but we were able to come back.

"It was great to score again, especially so late on to win the match.

"The atmosphere was brilliant, too, the fans supported us from the first minute to the last."
