Ronaldo Close to New Deal - Agent

Cristiano Ronaldo is edging closer to signing a new contract that will make him a Red Devil until 2010, according to his agent Jorge Mendes.

The Portuguese international winger has been lodged in negotiations with United since the summer and, at one point, it seemed Ronaldo snubbed a new deal.

However, Jorge Mendes has revealed his client will eventually put pen-to-paper. He said: "This week we have made a lot of progress and every time we talk we are closer to Cristiano signing.

"He wants it to be a long deal so he doesn't have to worry about it any more and he can concentrate on playing his football.

"We are talking about an extension until 2010."
