Giggs Still Hungry for United and Wales

Ryan Giggs has hit-back at claims his Manchester United career is nearing its end. The winger, who has made only 3 United starts this term, has also targeted playing in the finals of the 2010 World Cup with the underachieving Wales.

Ryan Giggs is in an optimistic mood about his Manchester United future, despite critics claiming the Welsh winger’s days at Old Trafford are numbered.

The summer signing of Park Ji-Sung has seen Giggs start only three matches for United this season, whilst speculation continues to link the Cardiff-born star with a move to the continent.

"I don't see it that I am not first choice," said the 31-year-old.

"I still maintain that if I am playing well I will be in the Manchester United team. The hunger for me is still there, and there is an extra sense of that."

Giggs has also committed his future to his country. Having won League Championships, European competitions and domestic cups at Old Trafford, he has had little success on the international front with his native Wales having not qualified for a major tournament since 1958.

“Consistency-wise this is the best I have played for Wales, I still see the 2010 World Cup as a realistic target, hopefully fit and playing well. We will also have a crack at Euro 2008.

"I have always had that hunger, and towards the end of your career it gets stronger."

Skipper under John Toshack, Giggs hit the winner as Wales performed superbly to edge out Northern Ireland on Saturday. That was Wales’ only win thus far of a dismal qualification campaign which ends on Wednesday against Azerbaijan. Wales’ best-known player will make his 55th international appearance at the Millennium Stadium.
