The future looks bright for Manchester United as the young Red Devils saw off competition from League Two side Barnet to progress into the 4th round of the Carling Cup.

The future looks bright for Manchester United as the young Red Devils saw off competition from League Two side Barnet to progress into the 4th round of the Carling Cup.

Goals from Liam Miller, Kieran Richardson, Giuseppe Rossi and Sylvain Ebanks-Blake denied the Bees of a memorable win and had to play virtually 90 minutes with just 10 men.

Debuts were handed to Lee Martin, Ritchie Jones and Adam Eckersley as Sir Alex Ferguson completely changed his squad who drew with Spurs on the weekend. Wes Brown started in defence with Pique, making his return from injury.

Maybe nerves got the better of Barnet goalkeeper Ross Flitney, who was dismissed only moments into the game for rushing out of his area to collect a harmless through-ball. An Old Trafford crowd of 43,673 gave Flitney a good reception leaving the field however.

Laim Soares was sacrificed as he made way for Tynan as Barnet faced an impossible task of defeating Untied with one man down.

Republic of Ireland international Liam Miller, who's hardly featured for United since his free transfer from Celtic last season, converted the resulting free-kick, leaving Tynan to collect the ball from the net as his first piece of action.

Barnet striker Guiliano Grazioli, a prolific goalscorer in the lower leagues, had a goal disallowed for offside before United added another goal from another free-kick courtesy of Kieran Richardson.

After the break, Lee Martin continued to cause havoc on the wing and aided Giuseppe Rossi with his second senior United goal. Rossi stabbed passed Tynan with no hassle.

Barnet did get something to take home with, a Dean Sinclair goal. A bizarre mistake from Gerard Pique and Wes Brown in defence allowed Sinclair to round Tim Howard and find the net.

18-year-old Darron Gibson also made a debut from the bench and replaced former Wimbledon midfielder Lee Martin.

Just a few months ago, Sylvain Ebanks-Blake feared for his career after suffering a broken leg. Sir Alex Ferguson kept faith in Blake and the striker repaid the boss with a last minute goal, poking a ball into an empty net.
