Manchester United returned to their best with a 4-0 demolition of Lancastrian rivals Wigan Athletic. Rio Ferdinand netted his first goal for the club, Wayne Rooney secured a fantastic brace and Ruud Van Nistelrooy slotted home a penalty as the Red Devils cruised to a vital three points.
