Newcastle United have sacked 52-year-old Graeme Souness, bringing an end to a roller-coaster journey in charge of the underachieving Tyneside club. The Toon Army are desperate to see their side challenging the likes of MUFC for top domestic honours once again.

Premiership rivals Newcastle United have finally lost patience with underachieving manager Graeme Souness.

 

The Magpies continue to flirt with the relegation zone and have decided to part company with the Scotsman after notching up just one point from their last six Premiership outings.

"I'm saddened at the way things have worked out," said the 52-year-old following his expected departure from St.James’ Park.

"I have enjoyed living and working in Newcastle, and my family and I have been made to feel particularly welcome by the Geordies. I wish the club, the players and the supporters good fortune and success going forward,"

Newcastle have fallen from grace somewhat since challenging United for the Premiership crown during the mid-1990’s. Kevin ‘love it’ Keegan came so close to taking the league crown to the North East, but since then the Barcodes have continued to slip down the table and are now considered by many to be candidates for relegation back into England’s second flight.

 

Souness enjoyed a great start to life with Newcastle, going unbeaten in his opening nine games. However, his career record with the Toon stands at just 36 victories from 83 matches and the club are still desperately searching silverware. A 3-0 defeat at Manchester City was the final straw for the former Blackburn boss.

 

Glenn Roeder has been put in temporary charge, promoted from Academy Coach, working alongside Alan Shearer to try and revive the Tyneside giants.
