Vidic Suspended for Serbia Opener

Serbia & Montenegro will be without Nemanja Vidic for their World Cup opener on Sunday. The Manchester United defender is suspended and will miss the chance to line-up against Dutch team-mates Ruud van Nistelrooy and Edwin Van der Sar.

Serbia & Montenegro kick-off their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands on Sunday. However, they will be in action without the services of their tough tackling Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic who is suspended following his sending-off in the last qualifying match against Bosnia.

The centre-half will be a massive loss for the Serbs, who built a worldwide reputation for their solid defending during qualifying.

"Of course I am unhappy to miss the game, but if we play like we did in qualifying then we won't disappoint our nation. Everyone knows we are in a very tough group, so if we succeed in going through to the next stage it will be a success." confirmed Vidic.

Ruud van Nistelrooy and Edwin Van der Sar are both set to be in action for the Dutch as the dreaded 'Group of Death' starts to take shape. Argentina scraped past Ivory Coast 2-1 in the pool's opening game.
