They're finally here - the ManUtdWeb seasonal awards! We kick-off with the 'Reserve Team Player of the Year Crown', with Markus Neumayr, Gerard Piqué and Giuseppe Rossi the hopeful candidates! Who's your pick?
The Manchester United reserves enjoyed another superb season as they secured a memorable treble. But who was their star man over the course of the season?
In the first of our three 'seasonal awards', ManUtdWeb is delighted to announce the launch of the 'Reserve Team Player of the Year' poll, with voting already well underway. There are three candidates for supporters to choose between, with Markus Neumayr, Gerard Piqué and Giuseppe Rossi all up for the "prestigious" award.
Markus Neumayr - captain of the reserve side for the treble-winning campaign, the German proved his versatility by adopting various roles in the midfield as he performed consistently well throughout the season. His form was rewarded with a place in the first-team squad for the March Premiership game with West Ham United, but the competition for places ultimately proved too much for the 20-year-old who was released at the end of the season.
Gerard Piqué - The 19-year-old Spanish sensation continues to promise big things at Old Trafford with a season full of progression. He notched up a surprising seven first-team appearances over the campaign, and was solid in defence for the second-string. Under contract until 2009, Piqué can be expected to be tested further at first-team level next season.
Giuseppe Rossi - a clear favourite in most people's eyes, Rossi made 12 appearances for the seniors and scored four goals in the process as he proved his fantastic potential for the future. Most spectacularly though was his form for the reserves, netting an amazing 30 goals as Rene Meulensteen's side become the first team to retain the title. He is a player who has come on leaps and bounds since his move from Parma, and the diminutive forward really does look an amazing prospect for the future.
