Ronaldo Favours Madrid Move

The speculation circles around the ongoing presidential elections at the Bernabéu. Ronaldo has received contact from Juan Miguel Villar Mir, a leading candidate, with regards to a possible move to Spain.

"I have told my agent that I would like to leave. I want to do so in the best way possible. I want to play for Madrid and I dream about it." confirmed the 21-year-old, in an interview with Spanish sports daily Marca.

The Portuguese international, currently hoping to help his country to World Cup glory in Germany, remains under contract at Old Trafford in 2010. It would seemingly take a huge offer from abroad to persuade Sir Alex Ferguson to part with one of his brightest prospects; a player who has scored 27 United goals since his high-profile £12,250,000 move from Sporting Lisbon some three years ago.

However, Ronaldo has had a tough year and may feel a new challenge would lease new life into his career. The recent death of his father, and false accusations which saw the player appear in court on a rape charge earlier in the season, have certainly not made things easy for the Madeira-born man.

With United anxious to build a squad that can once again challenge for the Premiership crown, the loss of such a high calibre player would certainly be a blow to the club's bid for domestic glory. Nevertheless, the club are unlikely to stand in the way of a want-away player should a substantial offer arrive from Madrid.
