Flynner commits

Harriers captain Sean Flynn signs up for another season at Aggborough. Still no news on Danny Williams, and Harriers linked with another Saddler.read on in our news round up.

NEWS ROUND UP 30/05/03
Well quite an eventful week for Harriers, with the main news being the signature of captain Sean Flynn, on a one year contract. Flynn, who played the most out of the Kiddie squad last season, has ended all speculation and committed himself to another season, at Aggborough. The 35 year old certainly looks fit enough to continue, and in my opinion is a good player for us. Not spectacular but a good all rounder. Another vital ingredient he gives us, is a bit of Black Country “hommer”, and he does try to inspire all around him. So lets hope he can re capture some of his early season form .
One player who we all would like to see next season, Danny Williams, is still no nearer signing for us. He has been linked with a move to division Two new boys, Hartlepool, but only today, their manager Mike Newell has left the club. Maybe Jan Molby is lined up to take over ? No, don’t read anything into that, its just a quick thought. Another club to be linked with Danny is Wrexham, his home town and former club. However, as far as Iam aware, it was Dennis Smith, The Wrexham boss, who let Danny go in the first place. I have said before though, I think Danny has played his last game for us.
On a brighter note we have secured the services of Matthew Gadesby, who joined us from Mansfield Town, after an unsuccessful spell there, last season. Gadeseby, according to the Jumpjet Journal’s Walsall correspondent (Vince, a Walsall fan at work !) is quite a useful player. Anyone who has appeared 40 times in the First division cant be too bad , can he ? It seems that he has been unlucky, with manager changes at his last two clubs. Firstly, Graydon being replaced by Colin Lee at Walsall, and then Watkiss’s dismissal at Mansfield leading to Keith Curle’s appointment. Curle’s arrival also saw another centre half, Dion Scott shown the door, which of course led to his brief spell with us. Maybe Curle felt that with him there, he didn’t need any other defenders ?
Keeping with the Walsall theme, this week has saw us linked to Saddlers centre half, Tony Barras. Barras has yet to sign or be offered a contract, and according to the Express and Star, is one of Britt’s targets. Again, our correspondent, Vince, rates Barras very highly. Also, I believe we tried to get him on loan last season, only for him to go to Plymouth. At 32, I’m sure he’d do a grand job for us, in the Third division. I can see a little merry go round developing here though. I think Colin Lee, the Saddlers manager, wants Pollett, from Premiership bound Wolves. Pollett was on loan at Bescott last season, and this would then lead to the exit of Barras. So maybe we may have another Saddler , to join Gadesby for next season. I wonder what’s happened about Gary Birch, another Saddler we were linked with last season, you never know there could be three !
So that’s about it at the moment, only one more item to report on. Our former Chairman, Dave Reynolds, has left the Board of Directors at Cheltenham Town, citing business reason for his departure. Business reasons ? I would hazard a guess at these two reasons. 1. His son no longer plays for their youth team 2. Graham Allner has left the club. What do you think ?
Finally, more good news as the new East Stand flys up. I live near the ground and see it most days. The seats arent in yet but the roofs on and the structure is emerging.
