Player Review Part Two

KJ reviews more players, from swaud no,s 9-14, see if you agree with his opinions of the players from last season. part three follows later in the week.

PLAYERS REVIEW PART TWO
9 D BROUGHTON
at the start of 2002/3 much was expected of the big man. He had enjoyed a pretty good pre season and had his fair share of goals. He netted twice against Cheltenham in our final pre season game, including a penalty and all looked well. The following week he had another chance from the spot, however Lincolns keeper Marriott saved it and Drewe’s confidence suffered. It wasn’t until the end of October in the mauling of Swansea that he broke his duck (and the Swans). Discipline was another problem for Drewe and he saw red twice during the campaign and was nearly always top of the News of the World’s bad boy league table.
Despite having said all of the above, Drewe was a valuable member of the team and his commitment was nothing less than 100%. His workrate was never in question and his hard work certainly helped strike partner Bo Henriken to his 20 goals. It would be nice if he could score a few more but overall a pretty good season.

10 I FOSTER
last season proved to be Fozzie’s swansong at Kidder. The likeable scouser, whose gaols had helped us into the league had an indifferent campaign. Only the one goal really summed it up although he was by no means a regular. His single effort came from the penalty spot against Darlo, and what a cheeky pen it was, as he chipped the ball centrally over the diving keeper. Like Drewe he did miss one as well, in the defeat to Carlisle. There was no chipped effort this time, as the portly Cumbrian keeper Glennon kept out his injury time effort,as we missed out on a point. He did star in the 2-0 win at Cambridge, playing more in midfield, has he’d done in our Conference years. A true clubman, he will be missed and we wish him well for the future.

11 S SHILTON
Sam was one of the success stories of last season. The son of the former England keeper is a wing back, not a winger, not a full back, only a wing back. That’s why his first season with us was such a let down. Yes, he can fit into a midfield slot, but the 2001/2 season was all about 4-3-3. Britt’s 5-3-2 formation suited Shilts perfectly and he had a much improved season. Not the fastest for a wing back, but skillfull and not a bad goal tally. Lets hope he can improve further next year.

12 B HENRIKSEN
a great campaign for the Dane with the “goalden “locks. We all know that Bo really shouldn’t be playing in this league, some of his touches are way beyond the 3rd division. Fortunately for us, Bo is fond of, how shall we say?, that Oasis Album, cigarettes and alcohol. Some of his goals were truly memorable, and as you can see, he’s dominated our goal of the season poll, along with JJ of course. There are rumours that other clubs are interested in him, but luckily he is still under contract and they would have to pay for him. He seems to be settled here though and one would hope to see him again next season. A true fans favourite, and I was very impressed when he got his hat trick down at Exeter and with it our first football league hat trick. His gesture of kicking his souvenir ball to the Harriers fans was fantastic. If he were to leave, we would be lucky to find another 20 goal striker but would find it impossible to find one at this level to score the quality of the goals Bo scored.

13 J DANBY
I haven’t really seen much of Danby, he’s only played the odd Worcs Cup game and two sub appearance in the league, coming on after sendings off. Did have a spell on loan at the Swifts, to ease the deep vein thrombosis incurred from all that bench sitting. Has signed on for another year, hopefully will get his chance.

14 A DUCROS
the diminutive Dukey had another disappointing year, which culminated in his departure. Still our record signing, he only impressed in parts, and never justified the fee or his talent. Probably too small for the rough and tumble of division Three.

14 H MACAULEY
Hugh joined us from “Nam” on transfer deadline day and only ever appeared from the bench. When at Leek Town in the Conference he was highly rated and we were linked to him under Jan’s time. Didn’t impress the “Nam” faithful. I think he could do a job but like Dukey, I imagine he would be in and out of games. Not that we’ll know, because Britt released him.

15 D DOYLE
Daire was another to leave during the season, only making one start. Another with potential which failed to materialise.
