Good and bad news today for Kiddie fans. Midfield general Danny Williams finally signed up for another season as striker Drewe Broughton is rumoured to be on his way.

DANNY SIGNS, DREWE TO DEPART ?
Today (5/06/03) finally saw the end of the Danny Williams saga, when the popular Midfielder penned a new one year contract with the club. As we mentioned yesterday it was a compromise situation. The Harriers would have preferred Danny to sign up for two years, but in the end, both parties settled for just the one. Another rumour is the departure of striker Drewe Broughton who has been linked in the papers to a move to Southend United.
NEWS UPDATE
So at last the news all Kiddie fans have been waiting and hoping for, player of the year Danny Williams has signed on for another season. Not an ideal situation since the end of the season with it looking likely Danny had played his last game for us. The rumours were fuelled by his so called disappearance abroad, well, he was back home in Wrexham !. So now hopefully he will knuckle down and even improve on last years impressive displays. Speaking personally, he is one of my favourites and I rate him very highly. I do remember him arriving two years ago from Wrexham and hoping he was the no nonsense midfielder we needed. When he arrived he missed the first few games due to suspension and did have a bit of a hardman reputation. Even the first picture I saw of him in the pre season programme showed him in typical action, with Danny challenging a player, who looked like he’d been kicked high into the air. His performances for us though have shown that he’s not just a hatchet man and his range of passing is impressive. Basically Danny, or “Daggers” as he is known is a lower league Steven Gerrard/Patrick Vierra, a modern midfielder, who has no speciality. Here’s to a successful season to you Danny and hopefully promotion which will see no need to move next summer.
Today’s good news regarding Danny has been slightly soured by rumours that target man Drewe Broughton could be on his way out of Aggborough. Reports in the “Express and Star” suggest he could be a target for Third Division rivals Southend United. There were rumours around earlier of his departure, with Yeovil Town being mentioned. Drewe, is a good player, but has yet to realise his full potential, with us, and all of his former clubs. You can see there is something there, it’s just a case of if and when it will come out. It would be easy to get despondent at this stage, but I have no doubt Ian Britton has a replacement or two lined up. I’m not sure if we would get a fee, although Drewe is under contract. However, he joined under the Molby reign and is probably one of the top earners and thus his departure would save the club money in any case. Drewe cost us £50,000 from Peterborough in early 2001 and did nearly leave the club during autumn 2001 when Oxford United were interested. He did however stay and has impressed fans with his commitment to the cause whilst frustrating us also with some indifferent finishing. I will reserve judgement until any deal is done and also until we see who replaces him.
