Harriers lose to Albion

Kidderminster Harriers lost their first game of the pre season today to 1st Division West Brom. Harriers lead until the final 10 minutes when the Carlisle hoodoo struck again as former Cumbrian, Scott Dobie hit a late double.

Today, Harriers lost their pre season unbeaten tag, as West Bromwich Albion came from behind to win 2-1 at Aggborough.

In an even first half, both sides came to opening the scoring. It was Kyle Lightbourne who came close with a header from a corner and later shot wide from inside the area. For Albion, new signing Rob Hulse was denied by Craig Hinton and then Danny Dichio forced Brocky into a smart save. Young striker Matt Lewis came close also, with his shot ending up on the roof of the net.

Into the second half and Harriers took the lead, when another Albion new boy, Bernt Haas put through his own goal. By this time Harriers were matching their higher opponents and came close with a free kick from Matt Lewis, who earned the kick himself with an impressive run. His free kick grazed the bar. Sub Bo Henriksen should have double Kiddies lead from close in, but the Dane couldn’t quite get his head to the ball. Midfielder Danny Williams almost gave Kiddy a 2-0 lead when returning the ball to Albion after a stoppage. His long range “pass back”, caught Baggies keeper Hoult off guard and he was forced into an impressive save, luckily the Albion keeper is rather tall, I wouldn’t have fancied our own Stuart Brock’s chances in a similar situation.

Hughsey, received good reception

Both sides started to make many changes as the half wore on, with former Kidder favourite Lee Hughes’s introduction was well received by both sides. By this time Harriers were starting to look weary and another sub, Scott Dobie equalised. Of course Dobie joined Albion from Kiddy’s bogie side Carlisle and it looks like the Cumbrian jinx is still there. Dobie got behind the defence, rounded Brock and slotted home into the empty net. A minute later, the same player put Albion in front, heading home unchallenged from close range. Harriers failed to get back into the game as Albion finished the stronger. In injury time Albion wing back Clements nearly added a third, his powerful free kick coming back off the woodwork
