a look back at a few people who have incuured the wrath of Kidderminster Harriers. In this the first of a regular series, its Jan Molby. A figure of love and hate for Kiddy fans.

little did those camp popsters The Pet Shop Boys know what an impact their song would have on the football terraces. In the interest of decency i haven’t published the first part of the song but I’m sure you get the idea. In this, the first of a regular series, KJ will talk through a few people, who we don’t hold in much regard at Kiddy.

A real love and hate one to start with. I like all Kiddie fans worshipped the Dane during his spell. A quick confession you see, I’m a closet Liverpool fan, well if you can call it that, basically, I like them and look for the results and have only seen them a few times. So with this his appointment in May 1999 was rather popular with me. Over the coming season we started poorly and there were some who called for his head. Of course we recovered and Jan went down in Kiddy folklore as the man who brought league football to Kidderminster.

His departure did leave a sour taste in the mouth though and to leave after a game against Cheltenham was very cruel on us. I remember feeling like a jilted lover on that night at Whaddon Road. What made it worse was the fact that everyone knew he was going, especially the “Nam” fans. A bit like going down the pub and everyone knowing your girlfriend is going to give you the heave ho. Worse still, an enemy finds out as well and starts taking the mike as well. A very nasty business and all you want to do afterwards is pull an absolute stunner and rub her nose in it.

That great day when Harriers metaphorically speaking walked in the pub with gorgeous babe on the arm wasn’t that long in coming. October 5th 2002 to be precise and Jan, the two timing so and so was back. He returned to Aggborough quite an unpopular man, in what turned out to be his final game for Hull City against his previous club. Going back to the ex girlfriend scenario a bit like walking in with the stunner to see your ex girlfriend be dumped by her new fella, marvellous. I do forgive him now, and in fact Jan will probably be in my legends section as well.

Well now of course, Jan is helping out Nuneaton Borough, not exactly football page three material. To be honest the annoying thing is, that Jan would probably do well at a higher level with better players. It is doubtful he will ever reach the heights of the game now.
