Two coming in (News Update)

So after a dismal defeat to Conference side Hereford United the Harriers fans can feel a little low at present. However the club are set to reveal two new sigings tomorrow.

NEWS UPDATE (4/6/03)

Well for those who ventured down to the sticks to see the Hereford game will be in no doubt that we need a couple of strikers and tomorrows the day. Yes it’s the day when Britt will announce two signings, according to the official website and that’s where the exclusive will be tomorrow, so if your reading this on Tuesday 5th August, then click the link at the bottom and find out who the signings are. I’ll update you later when I return from work.

So who will these signings be? The obvious choice is John Williams, who is of course still here on trial. The big man did ok at Hereford but he did miss a complete sitter. The other name being mentioned, is of course, Andy Bishop. Its is an open secret that Britt has been trying to bring in the Walsall youngster. Of course Bish, had a pretty good loan spell here last season and one things for sure, we do need at least one more striker, well lets be honest, we need two. The other supposed target was Gary Birch, also of Walsall, but I think that moves dead now. Especially with his pre season form. After netting a brace against us last week, Birch went and scored the winner against Villa at the weekend, and is expected to be part of the Saddlers first team squad at least. Who knows it could be someone else, other names banded around in pre season, include Bob Taylor, but he has started training with Nam, probably high altitude knowing Mr Gould. Maybe it could be another young striker with another local bigger side, surely Wolves, Albion, Villa or Blues have got good kids who need experience as well. Anyway all will be revealed tomorrow.

HEREFORD 2 KIDDY 1

Here’s a brief report, sorry it’s a bit late. So another pleasant journey in glorious sunshine. Yet another day stuck behind the pleasure drivers and tractors as I head out in the sticks for Kiddy’s final friendly. The ground is easily found, and not much has changed. Other than the old away end has now been closed down. I must say Edgar Street isn’t a bad ground but it does look a little dated, and the end which has been closed does look a bit like a cattle pen.

We start reasonably well and Bo has a great chance to score but his close range effort is saved, well I wouldn’t call it a save, it basically hit him. Hereford started to come into it well and the other Danny Williams gave the Bulls the lead. Harriers failed to clear their lines and Williams, eventually headed home from close range. New boy Graham Ward should have put us level after getting into a good position inside the Hereford area but he shot well over.

Into the second half and Harriers started well, with John Williams on at half time and the big man was eager to please. Harriers did draw level with a Sam Shilton goal. Ward cut down the right and cut it back well for Sam to fire home via the post. A bit of credit to big John though as his far post run had confused the Hereford rearguard. Harriers failed to build on this though and then gifted Hereford the second and ultimately winning goal. Craig Hinton took the ball out of defence well and looked to be setting up and attack, however he managed to boot the ball straight at a Hereford player. The ball ran kindly then for Steve Guinan to run on and fire powerfully past Brocky. Harriers failed to come back from this, Bo Henriksen, nearly equalised but only managed with the side netting. So not the best of days in the country, where one felt a bit like a city gent in such surroundings. Difficult to take many positives out of the game but a quite enjoyable day. Did stand near Oswald from KHIST for most of the game and to be honest, he was probably my highlight. He was very insistent on mentioning the “Seagulls”, which were circling above us (Brighton did relegate Hereford remember). His classic though, was the observation that Sun Valley, Hereford’s sponsors, basically sold “dead birds”, a bit like a necrophiliac pimp.
