10 men again undefeated

Kidderminster Harriers again were reduced to 10 men and still refused to be beaten as they drew 0-0 at Cambridge.Abdou Sall walked for 2 bookings, whilst U's Fred Murray commited 3 bookable offences to receive 1 yellow card. Stil not safe.

Brief report

Harriers boss made some changes today at Cambridge as Harriers looked for the win which would cement their place in div 3 next season. Harriers went with a more defensive look, with a 4-4-3 or 4-5-1 at times. Sall kept his place at the back with Lee Jenkins coming into the side in place of the departed Ian Foster. Harriers started ok and Mark Yates saw a thumping drive well saved by Marshall in the U’s goal. Cambridge, under French coach and Janet Street Porter lookalike Le Roy did have the better of possession but didn’t really threaten. However, the U’s full back Angus went on a clever run before firing wide with the goal at his mercy approaching half time, this was the closest either side came to scoring.

Into the 2nd half and the view amongst my fellow fans was that we needed to attack more.  A draw wouldn’t be the end of the world but the best from of defence is attack. Sure enough Harriers were preparing to bring on Adam Murray, the new father no doubt exhausted after a sleepless week, and also John Williams. The game was by no means dirty and after being fouled, Abdou Sall squared up to his U’s counterpart as they behaved Stag like and seemed to butt each other. The ref got involved and booked both parties. Then Harriers made their changes, with Gadsby and Parrish making way as it looked like we were going to go for it. Cambridge had a good chance when Easter had broken clear into the area but the impressive John Danby saved well. Still, with the new men on, perhaps we could step up a gear and get something.

Harriers chances were dramatically reduced when Sall was sent of for a 2nd booking. I suppose it was a bookable offence but it just wasn’t that type of game. I don’t like seeing players sent off so easily but rules are rules I suppose. Then the ref really started to annoy me. The U’s left back, Fred Murray committed a foul and was beckoned to the referee. Yellow card ? No. He was given a warning. Ok, then within a few minutes, Murray (Fred) then hacked down another Kidder player and was promptly booked. Ok, I don’t like seeing loads of bookings but the ref had made the game as such. Just to add insult to injury, the balding Fred Murray then conceded another foul, surely now ? No. SGC failure again (SGC= same game consistency). How many more fools must we suffer this season ? If your going to get strict, be consistent. Mr PJ Robinson is in a long list of idiotic officials we’ve suffered. The best bit is, they are beyond criticism by Jan and the players. But not by me. I’m convinced if Fred Murray were to have picked up a gun, shot Jesper, and soddomised the linesmen whilst inciting the crowd, the impotent Robinson would have done nothing.

Anyway, back to the game, after all, that’s what its about, players, not pathetic little men. Harriers defended well with 10 men, for the 2nd game in a row and did have some sorties up field, forcing one good save from Marshall. As you would expect, the U’s created the better chances but Harriers held firm. Cambridge went closest when Tudor saw his free kick saved by Danby. Then, right at the death, Harriers could have stolen it. John Williams did well down the right and put in a decent cross. U’s keeper Marshall could only parry it out to Jesper Christiansen. Unfortunately, the Dane lent back and fired over the gaping goal. A lot of Kidder fans howled in derision as the 3 points went begging.

So all in all an entertaining day. An awful ref and a bad miss by Jesper. Despite this, I still think he may have something to offer us, probably next season, unless the boo boys get their way.
