Kidderminster Harriers open their League Two campaign on Saturday with a trip to old rivals,Rushden & Diamonds. Can Kidder get off to a flier at Nene Park ?

??

Difficult to say, with regard to Saturdays result, or how the whole season will pan out. I still think it could be "Greek" like, and an amazing triumphant campaign, or it equally could be "Carlisle" like, and we could be doomed before we start.

However I do feel much mroe optismistic than a few weeks ago, thanks mainly to Jan signing some players !. Whether the new lads can do the business remains to be seen. Rueben Hazell and Micky Mellon should be quality but the others, who knows ? This is no disrespect to them, but in Gleeson, Russell and the French lads, they are unproven. With the returning Appleby and Fozzie, they have had their problems, lets hope they can produce.

Looking at various media opinions, it appears that we are being written off as relegated. I suppose, just by the size of our club, squad, and budget, its the easy option. One report said, that we lacked a proven scorer, and I suppose I agree. Jan has offered Iysseden Christie a contract, which the former Orient and Mansfield man has yet to respond to. If Christie does sign, we wont see him for a few weeks, as he is carrrying an injury. He could be the man to get the goals, and we do need one badly. Of course, theres Simon Brown, but he's only definately here for a month. Maybe Rickards or any of the others could emerge, but I do feel the answer up front lies in a new signing.

As for the rest of the squad, it aint too bad. Danby is a good prospect, the defence marshalled by Hatswell is ok and with Mellon in the middle, we look ok. The main problem is avoiding injuries and suspensions because we dont really have much depth at the moment.

So having won the last four friendlies, after a poor start, Kidder will be looking for a good start in Northamptonshire. I will put a match preview on later.
