MANCHESTER United Legend George Best has spoken out about the treatment of United officials towards David Beckham.

Manchester United legend George Best has slammed the club’s treatment of David Beckham, saying they went behind the England captain's back by agreeing to sell him to Barcelona.

The former Old Trafford favourite told the Daily Mirror: "I think he has been treated abysmally. He seems to be piggy-in-the-middle and it's not fair on the poor lad.

"He's given so much loyalty to one club and that is such a rare thing in football now."

Barcelona have been given permission to start talks with David Beckham's officials over a £30 million move to the Nou Camp this summer.
