Former Leeds Chairman Peter Ridsdale is close to buying the Yorkshire club, say current owner Peter Doyle.

Barnsley owner Peter Doyle has told BBC Radio Sheffield that a deal to sell the Yorkshire club to former Leeds Chairman Peter Ridsdale is almost complete.

Further talks will take place on Tuesday and Doyle says an agreement over the sale of Barnsley Football Club is imminent.

He said “We are close, we’ve one or two things to sort out but I’m confident they can be resolved. I’m pleased Mr Ridsdale is thinking the way he is because all I ever wanted was football at Barnsley.

Meanwhile Barnsley manger Glyn Hodges is confident that Club captain Mitch Ward will agree to stay at Oakwell despite the uncertainty surrounding the club.
