Paulo Di Canio has joined Charlton Athletic on a free transfer. He signs a 1 year deal with the Addicks after his release from West Ham United.

Charlton boss Alan Curbishley said: "I knew he is going to be immensely popular with the club's fans. I am sure that his professionalism and presence will also help the younger players in the side"

Di Canio said: "I had offers from abroad, but as soon as I met Alan Curbishley and Richard Murray (Chairman) I sensed this was a club with ambition. I am very excited to be playing in the premiership again next season and i can't wait until my first game at The Valley."

Di Canio started his premiership career at Sheffield Wednsday 6 years ago. When the Owls were relegated in 99/00 season he signed for West Ham.

When the Hammers were relegated last season Paulo was one of the many players who got released to reduce the wage bill.
