REPORTS that the Football Association have named Bayern Munich manager Ottmar Hitzfeld as the potential successor to current England coach Sven Goran Eriksson have been denied.
The reports claim that Hitzfeld has been identified as the next England coach when Eriksson calls it a day but FA spokesman Adrian Bevington has rejected the claims reaffirming their long-term backing for the Swedish coach.
"Sven is the number one candidate for the job," said Bevington. "He's already in place and he's the man we want to remain in place long-term."
It is believed that the FA recently offered Eriksson a two-year extension to his current contract which is due to expire following the 2006 World Cup.
Is Eriksson the right man for the job? Should he stay or should he go?
