United to offload French Goalie
Manchester United are looking to offload their French out-of favor goalkeeper Fabien Barthez as soon as the transfer window re-opens in January. The goalkeeper is not playing many games now due to the arrival of new American first team keeper Tim Howard, and Roy Carroll is used as Sir Alex Ferguson's No. 2 rather than Fabien.
The keeper is eagar to move before the European Championships in Portugal this summer, and wants to be able to play enough games to leave an impression on the French national team manager so he will be his first choice for the competition.
One of the sides who will be interested in signing the world cup winner will be Marseille "We are going to try to sign him as soon as possible," said Marseille director Christophe Bouchet.
Barthez commented on the move, saying: "From the moment I learned Manchester and Marseille were talking I was in quite a rush to come here," he said
"Marseille are a special club for me. I really started out here. My wish was to play for Marseille." he added.
