Nobby tops O'Leary's List
Villa have set their sights on capturing Newcastle United's winger Nobby Solano - but the deal is in the balance with the Magpies board not yet agreed over a transfer fee, and the player's high wages.
The 29-year-old Peruvian is believed to be the player O'Leary would most like to see coming to Villa Park and has had one of his scouts go and watch him up-north recently.
Solano is surplus to requirements at St James' Park and Sir Bobby Robson will need to sell if he is still looking to make a bid for Celtic's world class striker Henrik Larsson.
Despite making 52 appearances just two years ago, the fans favorite has only started a few games this season, and hell want to be playing first team football and it can't of helped when fell out with Robson earlier this term over his international commitments.
Solano, who has scored 11 goals in 59 appearances in nine years of football for Peru, joined Newcastle from Boca Juniors of Argentina for £2.76m in August 1998.
He has a contract with United until the end of the 2005/06 season with Newcastle so it will be extremely hard for Aston Villa to top the wages he is already being paid by Newcastle United.
