Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri has told the world how he had to make it in the small time before managing Chelsea, ahead of the clash with Scarborough.
Chelsea manager Ranieri made these comments to TeamTALK.
Ranieri said: "I love to see all the fans around
the pitch. I remember as a player in Italy going to a little stadium and when I
tried to take a throw-in, a woman hooked an umbrella over my arm. It is true.
Funny now, but it is true.
"I have never been to Scarborough but I know it will be a rich experience
for me - and my players.
"They have played everywhere in their careers and it will not put them off.
We will respect Scarborough, the team and the town but we want to dominate the
football and win.
"I know what a big day it is for our opponents because I started my
management days at a club just like Scarborough. It was called Vigor Lamezia in
Calabria, Southern Italy. I enjoyed it a lot.
"All the other teams in our league were amateur but my club paid the
players some money. They were semi-professionals. Everything is serious about
football in Italy, even that."
Ranieri also managed a few small teams in his time.
He said: "My second club as a manager was only in
the third division in Italy - and so were my next two.
"I was never a champion player. Out of 350 matches I played only about 100
at the top league level. The rest were in division one.
"So I did not have a big name like Mancini or Zoff to get me into
management. But when I went to Cagliari we eventually started to win matches and
I arrived in the premier (Serie A) that way."
