The blues were dumped out of the carling cup last night (tuesday 20/12/05) as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of manchester united.
Did we honestly think we could go all the way? well now we can`t and face another season of avoiding relegation , which most Brummies expected anyway, on tuesday night the blues hung on until half time with a fair few chances themselves although the game was dominated by Manchester United, a goal just after the break from Louis Saha and 4 minutes later a goal from J.S Park "killed" birmingham according to blues boss Steve Bruce, and 13 minutes later saha had a chance to double his tally when some lackluster defending allowed him to score his second of the game, on 75 miniutes Jarosik scored a consolation goal.
Reaction from steve bruce:-
"For all the hard work we put in, in the first half, to start the second half off like that was very frustrating," said Bruce.
"To give yourself a chance you've got to try and regroup and keep it at 1-0, but when they scored another goal in four minutes it has killed us.
"I have to say that two of their three goals were great finishes, but from our point of view it was very disappointing to start the half like that, particularly as I thought we were giving as good as we got towards the end of the first half.
"But we stuck at it and made a fist of it which was little bit pleasing.
"It's now another result gone against us so it's a time for everybody to buckle down the hatches because it's going to be tough winter, but I'm confident we can pull it through.
