Commenting on the retirement of Harry Ellis from the game because of injury England Team Manager Martin Johnson said: “I was sorry to hear the news about Harry having to retire from the game because of injury.
“Harry has been an excellent player who always gave everything for Leicester Tigers and England.
“From the first time he was involved it was obvious to everyone in the Tigers squad that he was a special talent and that he’d make a big impact for Leicester and England. I’m sure that if he’d been fit Harry would have continued to make a huge contribution to his club and country for many years to come.
“On behalf of the England squad I’d like to wish Harry all the best for the future.”
The scrum half won 27 England caps, making his debut at the age of 22 in the 32-16 win against South Africa on November 20, 2004.
His last appearance was in the 26-12 win over Scotland at Twickenham on March 21, 2009. He scored five tries for England, touching down twice against Italy in the 2009 RBS 6 Nations.

I'm always sorry to hear of a player whose career has been prematurely curtailed through injury. All the best for the future to Harry.

A very good player, very sad to hear this. Never the same after that bit of thuggery back in 2007. He offers a lot of different qualities to Youngs and having the pair of them push each other for the 9 slot with England would have been very good. Still, a Lions cap ain't a bad way to go out.

How ironic that his career is over because someone else displayed some demonstrated some old fashioned thuggery.
A minutes silence was held in his honour by those he modeled himself upon.

Hardly. Ellis was a thug and also acted like a meerkat at the back of every ruck.
Sad a players has to retire because of injury, but I for one won't miss him.

The post you quoted is even funnier when you consider his shameless advertising for his own forum. Why leave when every post of his can have such blatant in-your-face advertising attached to the bottom??

Wel balanced argument there - not! I'd love to see how would react were it a nothampton p[layer who was in the same boat, and received similar comments from a non-Saints supporter!
I thought one of the guys on the DW board summed it up when he said "Good luck to him. Amazing for England, pain in the ass for Tigers".

If was the case and I was actually precious enough to be like that, I'd probably attempt to use a reasoned debate to state the contrary instead of of making petty remarks against other posters.
