First of all many congratulations to Ireland who although had the same 8 championship points as Wales and England, they had the better game points difference over the whole tournament and lifted the new six nations trophy on that basis.

England although winning a fantastic match against the French on the day lost the tournament by 6 game points but it has to be said they left many points on the field against Italy and Scotland, let alone Ireland.   And their discipline throughout the tournament was woeful culminating with Haskell sin bin and the penalty given away in the dying seconds of the match - these are unacceptable.

However, having said all of that what a fantastic effort last Saturday at Twickenham.   Whey hey, the French turned up and in style! (wish they hadn't like but there you go) The French gave England the biggest test of the tournament, forget Ireland and Wales, last Saturday's game will go down in the history books as one of the most exciting games of rugby to watch.

England's drift defence had no answer to the French wingers, two tries in the first half, England did not learn and paid the price on the day.  I have to say this was one of the best matches I have watched at Twickenham and all credit to the French for their input on this match.

England also have to be given praise as they never gave up but once again their discipline let them down.  In the first half the first few say..... 10mins seemed like there were no brains at home 'headless chickens' come to mind but then they seemed to settle into the game and it was just up and down the field and fast.  After the first half was over, I felt that I had already watched 80mins so much had happened. 

By the end of the match I and many others were exhausted with tension.   And although we won and won well really, it felt like a loss, it really did. 

The young guy from Cumbria sitting next to me said " I don't care we did not win the championship, we won and I would never have thought we would put up that many points".

The atmosphere at Twickenham on Saturday was tangible and I have to agree with my young friend from Cumbria.  Yes we lost out on the championship but what an advert for the game of Rugby Union.     This is the type of game to engage the masses especially with the RWC2015 this year.

My man of the match too many to call... I agree with the Beeb on Ben Youngs.........but I will name one, he stood in at the last minute for a certain ref., who I am pleased to see the back of Steve Walsh - Yes my man of the match was Nigel Owens, what a game he had.  Terrific.

As for Mr Richie.................

Yes I am sure your 5year plan did not come off but that team really tried their hearts on Saturday.

Yes I agree we left points on the park on previous matches but that is the game of sport.

Yes you no doubt felt like you had egg on your face with the other RFU members and had to get it off you chest.

But to true fans of rugby that game stood out as a beacon for the game.

But do you really have to kick the players when they are down and such a public manner

But 'Professionalism' in sport demands that you deal with that view in private one to one with the management and players.

But come on Mr Richie whilst some of us perhaps agree with you, grow up and handle things better!

They are hurting Mr Richie!!!!
