Where is the Rugby World Cup being held?
The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 is being played around England, with eight different host venues.
Games will take place across the country, including Sunderland, York, Brighton & Hove, Salford, Exeter, Bristol, Northampton and London.
Sunderland’s Stadium of Light will host the opening game of the tournament, while Allianz Stadium, the Home of England Rugby, is the venue for the bronze final and final.
Where can I watch the Red Roses?
England’s Red Roses are playing in Sunderland, Northampton, Brighton & Hove and potentially Exeter, Bristol and London.
If you can’t make it to a game, their fixtures will be shown live on either BBC One, BBC Two or BBC iPlayer.
When is the tournament taking place?
The tournament will start when England’s Red Roses play the USA in Sunderland on Friday 22 August and will end on Saturday 27 September with the final.
Over the course of six weeks, there will be games on each weekend, with the occasional Friday night fixture.
How does the Women’s Rugby World Cup work?
The Rugby World Cup is made up of 16 teams, split into four pools of four. In each pool, every team plays each other once before the top two sides qualify for the quarter-finals.
During the pool stage, teams will be awarded four points for a win, two points for a draw and zero points for a loss. However, teams will also be awarded a bonus point if they score four tries or more, and/or if they lose by seven points or less.
The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final are knock-out matches, meaning the winner advances to the next round or, in the case of the final, lifts the trophy.

The Red Roses are the England Senior Women’s rugby team and are currently the no.1 rugby team in the world.
They compete in the Guinness Women’s Six Nations, a tournament comprising the six top-ranked rugby teams in Europe, and have won the competition a staggering 15 times since 2002, when Italy joined.
In fact, the last time anyone but the Red Roses won the Six Nations was 2018, when France claimed the title. Additionally, since 2022 the Red Roses have won four successive Grand Slams, meaning they won every game of the tournament.
