FA Cup 4th Round and Division 1 Review

While the Royals didn't have a game today,many Division 1 sides played in the FA Cup 4th Round and there was also a Division 1 game between Bradford and Crystal Palace.Here we review the action for the teams in our Division.

Reports
Preston North End left Wales knocked out of the FA Cup after a shock result at the Vetch Field.Dickson Etuhu's near post second-half strike put the visitors in charge.But an Andy Robinson free kick and a Lee Trundle volley put the Division 3 side in the 5th Round.

Millwall's match against non league outfit Telford United was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.No date has been set for the replay.

A 4th minute goal from Bryan Hughes put Birmingham into the 5th Round after a 1-0 victory over Wimbledon,in a match which Matt and I went to.Wimbledon did the Nationwide proud with there performence and were unlucky after having some very good chances in the 1st half.

In an all Division 1 clash,Burnley beat Gillingham 3-1 at Turf Moor which means they the Clarets will be in the 5th Round and also meaning the clash between Reading and Burnley on the 14th February will be cancelled with the FA Cup 5th Round games on that weekend.In the game Ian Moore put Burnley in the lead on before a double from Robbie Blake made the game safe.But ex Royals striker Darius Henderson got his 1st goal for Gills since signing as the match finished 3-1.

Eric Black's Coventry City were held to a 1-1 draw against ex Royals Legend Phil Parkinson's Colchester United at Highfield Road.Colchester took a deserved lead after a Dele Adebola own goal before ex Aston Villa striker Julian Joachim scored 3 minutes later setting up a replay at Layer Road.

In another all Division 1 clash,promotion hopefulls Sunderland beat rivals 2-1 at Portman Road.Tommy Smith put the Black Cats ahead and Julio Arca made it 2-0 after Kelvin Davis spilled a Jason McAteer free-kick.But Sunderland held on despite a late goal from Martijn Reuser.

In the only game in Division 1,Iain Dowie continued his good start as Palace boss with a 2-1 win at Bradford.Andy Johnson and Neil Shippereley gave Palace a 2-0 lead before Ronnie Wallwork,on-loan from West Brom scored on his debut.Palace are now 14th in the league,8 points off a Playoff Place with Bradford 23rd,5 points from safety.

Tomorrow Alan Pardew's West Ham travel to Wolves while there is an all Division 1 clash between Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United.
