Former Royals pair agree new deals at Brentford

Brentford Manager Martin Allen and his First Team Coach Adie Whitbread have agreed new 3 year deals at Griffin Park.Both played roles in getting Reading promoted to the 1st Division in the 2001/2002 season.

Brentford Manager Martin Allen has agreed a new 3 year deal at Griffin Park along with his First Team Coach Adie Whitbread.

Allen,the son of former Royals star Dennis was Assistant Manager to Alan Pardew for 2 years between March 2000 and November 2002.He left the club after tension's were rising between himself and the Royals players at the time.

Whitbread initially joined the Royals on a 3 month loan deal in February 2001 and played a major part in getting Reading to the Division 2 Playoff Final.He wasn't allowed to play in the final because the FA refused the extend his 3 month loan deal for 3 extra games.However he signed permanently in the summer from Portsmouth on a free transfer and was first choice before sustaining a cruciate knee ligament injury at Oldham away.He never played a game for Reading after the injury.

Allen steered Brentford away from relegation after joining from Barnet back in March.
