Reading will face near neighbours, Oxford United away in the first round of the Carling Cup after the draw was announced this morning.

| Reading have been drawn away for the second consecutive year against local rivals, Oxford United.
The game again is likely to be a tense occasion with Oxford looking to take revenge for the 3:1 defeat at the Kassam Stadium last August with John Salako, Nicky Forster and James Harper all scoring for the Royals. The match will take place on the 24/25th August with ticket details for the game likely to be released in the next few weeks. This seasons match will see new managers in charge with Graham Rix now in charge at United and Steve Coppell now with the Royals. There will attempts to try and stop any of the many problems that happen in last season encounter, which saw a number of Reading fans injured after being hit with bottles.
