Reading climbed to fifth in the League after defeating Sunderland at the Madejski Stadium. Nicky Forster scored the only goal of the game after only two minutes.

| Reading got back to winning ways after beating Sunderland by the single goal in an entertaining game at the Madejski Stadium.
Though the game was overshadowed by the software problems with match tickets which caused home and away fans to miss the majority of the first half. To make it worse for the late arrivals they missed the only goal of the game scored by Nicky Forster after only two minutes. Andy Hughes cross into the box found its way to Forster whose glancing header beat Mart Poom at his near post. It was Forster's second goal of the season a good response from the Royals after a frustrating afternoon at Millwall on Saturday. Sunderland's best opening in the first half fell to former Oxford United playmaker Dean Whitehead, his shot shot clipped the outside of the post. Half Time: Reading 1:0 Sunderland Sunderland enjoyed the majority of the possession in the second half but never really tested Hahnemann in his goal. Not to say Reading had some good opportunities to wrap up the game. A great piece of individual skill by Dave Kitson put Steve Sidwell through but his shot was saved by Mart Poom Poom then pulled of a fantastic save to foil Kitson. From a corner Kitson flicked the ball towards go only to be thwarted by the post, he then reacted first to the rebound but his second effort was somehow kept out by Poom. Mick McCarthy made substitutions to try and turn the game in his favour, ex Manchester City forward Stephen Elliot came on to replace Marcus Stewart. Liam Lawrence was also put on to add some much needed attacking options. Though Reading hung on to record another one nil win and go fifth in the table.
