wracking match for Royals supporters since the dramatic promotion match with
Brentford back in April 2002. The Royals can still make the Playoffs, with many possible way's into the Playoffs but supporters must remember that the opponents they face in Wigan Athletic must win themselves in order to secure Premiership football. Here on 1871Royals, we take you through possible way's that Reading can reach the Playoffs. Below is a league table giving an indication of just how tight it is;
Championship Fixtures - Sunday 8th May 2005 Brighton Vs Ipswich Town (LIVE ON SKY SPORTS) How we can get into the Playoffs? If West Ham win; Reading can qualify by bettering West Ham's score. For instance if West Ham win 1-0, the Royals must win 2-0 etc. Should both sides win by the same scoreline, example 1-0 each then West Ham would qualify because they have scored more goals than Reading. The Hammers and Royals both have the same goal difference and Football League rules state that should this be the case then goals scored is the 2nd ruling to use. Should Derby County lose to Preston North End and both Reading and West Ham win then both sides would qualify for the Playoffs. Who finishes 5th or 6th would again depend on the scoreline between both sides. Should Derby County fail to lose, they'll be in the Playoffs regardless. But if they lose then either Reading or West Ham can catch them. If West Ham draw; The Royals can reach the Playoffs by winning. A draw would not be enough because of the goals scored factor. If West Ham lose; The Royals can qualify by not losing against Wigan. The Royals can still make the Playoffs by losing but to a lesser score. For instance, if West Ham lost 2-0 and we only lost 1-0 we would make the Playoffs. Sheffield United have a very very slim chance of making the Playoffs by hoping that ourselves and West Ham lose and they win by 6 goals. How to help Steve Coppell and the boys? 1) Get yourself down to the JJB Stadium to cheer the boys on. Tickets are priced at £17 Adults and £12 Concession. A concession is someone who is under 17, or over 60 years old. 2) Wear the hoops at the JJB. Lets create a sea of blue and white as once witnessed at Griffin Park. 3) Have a few alcoholic drinks before the game. It's a well known myth that there is more atmosphere from supporters while under the influence of alcohol, so get dipping into your wallets and get the beers down your throat. 4) Don't focus songs at West Ham and Alan Pardew. The team needs our supporters to be 120% focused on the club and any songs should be aimed at getting our players playing to there potential. 5) DON'T BOO THE PLAYERS IF WE DON'T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. The simple reason would have been is that we aren't good enough but to still be in contention on the 46th game of the season is a fantastic achievement and the lads should be applauded for there efforts throughout the season. 6) Leave plenty of time for your journey. The match is a 13:00pm kick off and there is major engineering work on the Reading > Wigan line. Make use of coaches laid on by STAR (Supporters Trust at Reading). They have already got 5 coaches booked with 5 more on standby. The last 2 performances have been extremely disappointing but it still isn't over. Our final message we leave you is simple but what we feel is very significant to our season; KEEP THE FAITH! |
