Owusu heads back to Brentford

Lloyd Owusu is set for a move back to former club Brentford after agreeing a two year deal with Martin Allen's side.

Lloyd Owusu will follow in the footsteps of Paul Brooker by moving to
Brentford in the next few days after agreeing a two year deal. It will
be Owusu's second spell at the London club and will renew acquaintances
with former Reading team-mates Paul Brooker and Ricky Newman. Owusu was made available by Steve Coppell on a free transfer this summer after only making a cameo role for The Royals first team last season. However the striker did score six times including goals against Wigan Athletic in the draw at the Madejski Stadium and the equaliser against Leeds at home in October. A favourite amongst the fans, Owusu will be hoping to help Martin Allen's side reach the Championship next season and go one step better then last season after losing out in the Play-Off semi final to eventual winners Sheffield Wednesday. The players departure means Reading will have to bring in at least another six or seven signings if they want a realistic chance of making a promotion challenge. The departures of Ricky Newman (Brentford), Nicky Forster (Ipswich), Paul Brooker (Brentford), Les Ferdinand, Martin Keown and now Lloyd Owusu have made a already small squad now looking very very thin. However the connections between Reading and Brentford look set to continue as Stephen Hunt has now returned from holiday and is set to sign for Reading. Hunt was released from Brentford last season and was set to join Bradford before Steve Coppell registered his interest and Hunt changed his mind. Coppell has admitted that the signing of Hunt is a gamble after he is unproven at this level and has had a series of injuries in the last two seasons. It is hardly positive staff from The Royals gaffer and surely can't be pleasing Chairman John Madejski who wants a better placed finish last season and better team performances. However at least one more striker should be arriving after two have been lost this summer, at least one central defender is still needed along with a quality central midfielder and maybe another left winger depending on the impact Bobby Convey has next season. Hopefully Royals fans will be seeing the money splashed in the next couple of weeks and see some proven Championship quality join the ranks at the Madejski Stadium. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Reading Season Ticket holders should note the deadline for renewals is this Friday (01/07/05).
