Reading have rejected an approach from Championship rivals Norwich City
for Andy Hughes. Nigel Worthington is a long-term admirer of Hughes and
was hoping to cut a deal with Director Of Football Nicky Hammond however
Reading are adamant the 27 year old is staying at the Madejski Stadium.
Sheffield United were also rumoured to be interested in Hughes.
Speaking to Easter Daily Press, Nigel Worthington said, Meanwhile The Royals have taken three players on trail, Cambridge United defender Adam Tann aged 23 and two other young players from AFC Wimbledon. Reading have also got former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Sasa Ilic training with the club with a view to a permanent deal to provide backup to Marcus Hahnemann after Jamie Young moved to Rushden & Diamonds on loan. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Royals continue to be linked with a move for highly rated Bristol City striker Leroy Lita, Lita aged 20 scored 29 goals for The Robins in all competitions last season and is said to be attracted with a move to the Madejski Stadium. According to the Western Daily Press newspaper, Reading are believed to be ready to launch a bid for the striker which would see Shaun Goater depart to join Bristol City in a cash plus player deal. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The provisional squad numbers for the 05/06 season have been announced, the major talking points are new signing Stephen Hunt taking the number 10 jersey and Shaun Goater retaining the number 9 shirt although not being part of Steve Coppell's first team plans. Both shirt numbers, 6 and 8 are left available giving an idea at least two new signings may be joining before the start of the season. |
