Watford star Gunnarsson set for Reading switch

READING SET TO LAND BRYNJAR

Reading Football Club have today agreed an "undisclosed" fee for the signing of 29 year old midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson from fellow Championship side Watford.

The Icelandic midfielder, who has had previous spells in England with Stoke City and Nottingham Forest looks set to join his fellow countryman Ivar Ingimarsson at the Madejski Stadium.

The news comes only hours after the Royals agreed to sell Andy Hughes to Norwich City.

Gunnarsson needs no introduction to Reading supporters after joining Stoke City in 1999. He featured in many encounters between the 2 sides and during his spell at the Potteries, managed 150 appearances for City.

After 5 years though at the Britannia, he joined Nottingham Forest in 2003. He was a signing made by Paul Hart, though his spell in charge wasn't long and in the summer of 2004 transferred to Watford, again linking up with another compatriot in Heidur Helguson.

Gunnarsson is a player in the same mould as Hughes by the fact that he is versatile and will provide good competition in centre midfield with Steve Sidwell and James Harper.

Should Gunnarsson sign, the Royals will get the added bonus that the player is a regular for his national side, having played 40 times.

The player will travel to the Madejski Stadium tomorrow to agree personal terms and to pass a medical before hopefully being unveiled as a Reading player.
