Norwich complete signing of Hughes

Norwich City have completed the signing of Reading midfielder Andy Hughes for an "undiclosed" fee,thought to be in the region of £500,000.The player completed the move after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical,and he's put pen to paper on a 3 year contract.

Andy Hughes has completed his switch to Nigel Worthington's Norwich City. The transfer fee is "undisclosed" though it's believed to be in the region of £500,000, which the club will consider a good deal for a player that had only a year to run on his present contract. The transfer brings an end to an impressive 4 year stint for the former Oldham and Notts County midfielder who played a major part in Reading's recent years, probably the most successful in the players career. During his time, he gained 1 promotion, 1 playoff heartache at the hands of Wolves and narrowly missing out in the Playoffs on the final day of the season for 2 years running. Reading's Director of Football Nick Hammond described the Norwich bid for Hughesy as too good to turn down. He said; "Norwich made an initial offer which was unacceptable. "Steve Coppell then spoke with Andy and told him he wanted him to stay. "He didn't want to lose him because the squad is very thin and the potential was there for a new contract because he only had one year left on his contract. "Then Norwich came back with an improved offer which we accepted. Every player has a price and we felt they reached that." Other Transfer News Chris Makin and Brynjar Gunnarsson will be confirmed as as Reading players within the next 24-48 hours subject to the players passing respective medicals. Makin is currently with the first team squad on there pre season tour in Sweden while negotiations between the club and Gunnarsson have been taking place back at the Madejski Stadium. Makin didn't take a medical today because he felt ill after the flight. The Royals could be set to land former Everton and Celtic defender Alan Stubbs on a free transfer. The 33 year old is currently out of contract at Everton and is thought to have been offered a 1 year deal by the Merseyside club.
