GOATER LEAVES THE ROYALS

Shaun Goater has left Reading Football Club by "mutual consent" this evening.

The former Manchester City striker had a year left on his contract and was told by Royals boss Steve Coppell last year that he didn't feature in his future plans.

Another stumbling block came over £50,000 that was due to be paid once Goater made his 50th appearance for the Royals. His last appearance came in the 3-0 defeat at Preston North End last December.

The 33 year old striker joined in the summer of 2003 following a great spell at Manchester City, where "The Goat" hit over 100 goals in what was a remarkable spell.

Goater played 49 times for Reading, scoring 15 goals.

1871Royals would like to wish the best of luck to Shaun for the future!
