A new era has dawned upon Rotherham as Head Coach Andre Bester announced the departure of three players! David Strettle, Lee Blackett and Jon Golding – the only senior players at Roth, Bester hasn’t signed – will be leaving the club!

New Era!

Coach Bester, has now begun searching for new talent after closing contract talks with a group of first team players. Bester offered terms to fifteen players of which ten signed, two were rejected and three missed the deadline. A further nine squad members have been told that they have the rest of the season to prove their worth.

Bester stated, “I set the deadline of January 31st because that gives the club time to recruit new players with full knowledge of the budget that is available.”

“I think it is the worst kept secret in Rotherham that David Strettle will join Harlequins. This club has had a win-win relationship with David who has been a terrific player for us and he has developed well during his time here.”

“Lee Blackett and Jon Golding were both given outstanding offers which they didn’t return before the deadline. The decisions of players have to be respected and we wish them well in their future quests.”

“We are now in a much stronger position than we were twelve months ago. We have ten core players committed that are good enough to play Premiership rugby, with a further five or six of the current squad that may be added. In August we started with only three players that previously played consistently at this level. The new players, including myself, have been caught off-guard by the tempo and the quality of Division 1. Now we all know what it will take to go the whole way. Therefore only players with a track-record of success will be joining the Titans next season. ”

“I call this time of year the silly season because it is a period when players and clubs are planning a way forward. Our talks have been very intense because we have surpassed our expectations. A lot of our players now have the chance to play their way into the squad for next season.”

“Tim Maslanyk is getting his opportunity because his heart and soul is in Rotherham. He can strengthen our line-out and I don’t doubt his commitment to the club.”
