The fallout from last Saturday's trip to Bolton has continued with an article issued by the Premiership club, They have apologised for the delay caused for many fans getting into the ground, some of whom didn't see any of the first half.
In what was supposed to be a good day out for the Imps, but the day quickly turned into the stuff of nightmares for some City fans. The 1,600 that had bought their tickets before hand had no issues getting in, but when only 400 additional fans were expected, Bolton prepared appropriately.
When you only expect 400 additional fans to turn up, seeing 1,400 approaching the ground without tickets at various times between 1:30 and 3:00 would normally make a lot of other clubs think "maybe we need more people to sell tickets and working on turnstiles," but not Bolton.
Although the 1,400 eventually got in, bringing the away attendance to an excellent 3,107, a fair number for the 1,400 didn't get in until well after kick off, some of who didn't get in until nearly half time.
Bolton initially issued a statement that basically said that it was the fault of all the Imps. However, Gareth Moores, commerical director at Bolton, told his side of the story to Radio Lincolnshire.
"We were expecting an additional 400 supporters to pay at the turnstiles on the day. The big surprise was that almost 1500 made the trip without tickets." To be fair, it's hard to argue with that point that more turned up than were expected as even the majority of Lincoln fans who post in the "Predictions, Please" thread on this site's message board predicting City wouldn't take more than 2,000.
Moores continued "It was a fantastic turnout with around 3,100 Lincoln fans braving what were tricky weather conditions, but it did mean it took a little longer to bring people into the stadium than anticipated. We're sorry for any fans who didn't get into the stadium as quickly as they would have liked, but it was simply the huge volume of Lincoln fans travelling without tickets which was far in excess of the number anticipated."
