Hone makes Darlington's Jesus squad pay for time-wasting

Darlington will be rueing all of the time wasting that they committed after taking a lead against the Imps after Danny Hone scored in the sixth minute of injury time to give City a point they deserved in a game that they realistically dominated.

If you believe the Bible, you will be familiar with the work of Jesus Christ. He would turn water into wine, would bring hope and glory to all of the less fortunate and heal the sick with just a touch. Based on that, we can only assume that the Darlington physio is Christ resurrected. The amount of times Darlington players went down with what must have been a life threatening injury, only then to bounce back up as soon as the physio got anywhere near them was just ridiculous.

Then again, you could look at it the other way and just call Darlington a bunch of time-wasting cheats who ended up getting exactly what they deserved for being in as much of a hurry as a fat guy at a salad bar.

It had all started promisingly for the Imps as the visitors dominated the opening with Herd twice and Facey all missing good oppurtunities to open the lead within the first five minutes of the opening to the half. City continued to control what was a relatively quiet first half.

Kerr was booked in the 19th minute for a very late tackle on Waite. Purcell produced Darlington's first effort of the game with a volley from distance, but Burch saved relatively easily.

Hughton shot straight at Redmond with the Imps' first effort on target, but it was just before half time that Darlington took an undeserved lead. Dempsey picked up the ball about 40 yards from goals and when no-one challenged him, he tried his luck from 30 yards. City fans will be able to tell you that Burch's weakness is long range shots and it proved the case again as he failed to hold the ball and it squirmed over the line. This would be the last time during the match that Darlington would be in a hurry.

Purcell gained a yellow card for a foul on Kerr and that was the final moment worthy of note in the first half.

The first major signs of Darlington's less-than-sportsman like behavoiur came within 30 seconds of the restart as Mor Diop went down in the area under what could best be described as a challenge as threatening as a feather, the referee correctly waved play on.

John-Lewis replaced Facey for the Imps before Herd hit a 25 yard free kick well into the away end. Purcell then became "injured" after a low header, but luckily Jesus was on hand and the angels came down and granted Purcell the gift of being able to bounce straight up as if nothing had happened.

Gilmour suddenly found himself one-on-one with Redmond but a last gasp tackle from Miller prevented the Scot even getting a shot in on goal. The ball deflected back off of Gilmour and out for a goalkick, a goalkick that took Redmond nearly a minute to take. Lennon soon came on for Hughton for City.

John-Lewis and Miller colided and whilst John-Lewis got straight back up, Miller had every bone in his body broken, cue Jesus. After Miller's miraculous recovery, he could only watch as Lennon had an effort cleared off of the line by Madden.

Redmond was still in no hurry to take a goal kick and after 30 seconds preparing for one, the referee demanded he take it quickly......another 30 seconds later and it was finally taken. With less than a minute of injury time left to play, Darlington made a substitution to eat up yet more time, but it horrendously back-fired as it extended the added on time.

Burch pumped a ball upfield in the very last minute of the added on time and Danny Hone looped it into the net with the last kick of the game.

Maybe if Darlington hadn't time-wasted then they would have won this game, pity!
