A look at whom might be coming down

In our semi-regular look at whom will be likely to be coming into League Two next season, we take a look at the bottom of League One. All the clubs in the drop zone have been in League Two in the last five years, and that includes two Playoff Final winners.

Stockport County have had troubles all season and they find themselves 10 points adrift, having played two more games than Oldham in the last safe-spot, with just twelve to play. It seems almost inevitable that the Hatters will be returning to League Two after a two year absense, ironically replacing Rochdale, whom they beat in the Playoff Final in 2008.

The team that Stockport beat in the semi-finals that year, Wycombe Wanderers, are also one of the favourites to come back down. Wycombe spent many years trying to get back up to League One and finally achieved it last summer. However, they got rid of a proven manager in Peter Taylor and are now managed by former Aldershot manager, Gary Waddock.

Although Wycombe are only four points off of safety, they have played up to three games more than other teams around them and no-one in the division has played more games. A return to League Two at the first attempt looks exceedingly likely.

Despite being one of the pre-season favourites for promotion, Southend United look set for a return to League Two five years after beating the Imps in the Playoff Final. Southend have had a great time since then, winning League Two, beating Manchester United and making the League One Playoffs in 2008, but financial problems have forced the sale of most of their good players, most recently Lee Barnard, and they have slid down the table and now sit in the drop-zone.

Exeter are the final team in the drop zone with an identical record to Southend, albeit with a single goal better goal difference. They are just a point behind Oldham, but again have played more games than the Latics.

Oldham are the team most in danger and haven't really found any consistent form under Dave Penney. Despite being regulars at the top end of the table in recent years, Oldham could easily find themselves relegated if they don't pick up their form soon enough.

Realistically it'll be any four from those five, although Brentford, Hartlepool, Leyton Orient, Brighton, Gillingham and Tranmere are all within seven points of the drop zone.
