Somma and Baker show their class against Bournemouth

Lincoln City emerged victorious from a game that was labelled as a "must win", what made it even more vital was the fact that all the teams below the Imps (with the exception of Darlington) also won. David Somma's double secured the points but the performance of Nathan Baker has been acclaimed by City fans in the crowd.

With results over the last few games going against the Imps, three points was a must against a Bournemouth side who needed the points to add to their own promotion hopes. As the afternoon went on it would become evident how important a victory would be as Cheltenham, Torquay and Grimsby all recorded victories as well.

The game started in a frantic pace with the Imps enjoying the better possession, although not doing a lot with it. The visitors created the first chance as Baker blocked a Pitman cross and it went for a corner, the corner was headed wide by Pearce.

Herd and Somma combined well for the Aston Villa loanee to shoot wide before Connell, a regular scorer against the Imps down the years, curled a volley wide. It wasn't long before the scoring was opened though as Somma moved out on his own at the top of the scoring charts. He was released by Herd and the striker ran twoards Jalal before slotting it confidenty beyond him.

However, it didn't continue that way as City then did their traditional sitting on the lead. Fortunately though the visitors couldn't get near the goal thanks to some fine defending by Baker and this meant that Bournemouth were forced into long distance efforts. The final chance of the first half fell Bournemouth's way, but Swaibu did well to block Pitman's dipping long range shot.

Bournemouth were able to penetrate City's back line in the second half and it took a block on the line to deny Feeney. Pitman tried his luck directly from a free but it went out for a corner that came to nothing.

After piling on pressure without really getting anywhere, Bournemouth brought on Steve Fletcher and they were level within 30 seconds. He had come on just after Anderson had pushed Connell on the edge of the box and the resulting free kick went in off of Pitman to give the visitors a deserved equaliser.

However, it would be the Imps who would score a winner with what was pretty much their first realistic chance since the first goal was scored. Keltie played the ball over the top for Somma to lob Jalal and give City the lead in what was the final realistic chance of the game.
