One-on-one proves problematic for the Imps

Lincoln City went to Aldershot and left with nothing due to the side's inability to convert chances. Despite Somma scoring a one-on-one to open the scoring, it had come after Hughton, Lennon and Gilmour had all missed in similar situations and in all fairness, City can't have any complaints about the result given that the home club were simply better,

City started well but couldn't get any decent attacks in on goal due to Gilmour constantly wandering offside. Aldershot quickly put the gas on and Aaron Brown (not the former City player) headed just a foot wide. Lennon shot wide from a Keltie ball forward but that was about as good as it got for City attacking wise as Somma, Lennon and Gilmour were all constantly offside.

Aldershot weren't much better up front and were struggling to get shots in on goal themselves. Donnelly was booked for the hosts for giving away a free kick, Gilmour hit the subsequent free-kick straight at the wall. Keltie had a chance bocked on the edge of the box before Brown was also booked for the hosts.

The first of City's mass one-on-one misses came the way of Hughton. Somma released him but despite being one-on-one, he allowed a defender to get back before he shot and it was easily blocked. However, as bad as Hughton's failure to score was, Brian Gilmour has no excuse as Somma again released him, he chipped it over the keeper......and the bar.....and nearly the stand. That was the final incident of the first half. 

Burch collected a Sandell free kick before Kerr released Lennon for his one-on-one. The Scot attempted a first time lob that went just wide of the post.

It appeared as though it was going to be a very frustrating afternoon for City but then Kerr played a ball over the top towards Somma and we don't really need to tell you what happened next. Then again, it is a match report so I probably should say he slotted it away for his 9th of the season.

Saunders was booked for a foul before Hudson replaced Jackson. The game didn't stay in City's favour for long and the Morgan's combined for the hosts as Dean crossed it in and Marvin slotted it home. Winfield came on for Sandell.

Within three minutes Aldershot were back on the attack and this time it was Dean Morgan who scored this time as he jinked around a defence that seemingly had no intention of tackling him, he shot and it took a deflection to go beyond Burch.

The seven minutes of madness continued as Marvin Morgan was the only player who jumped for a free kick and his header went in at the back post. Gilmour quicky went off for Hutchinson.

City were lucky it didn't become four as Stephens cleared off of the line just seconds before a massive cheer as the home side confirmed their participation in the Playoffs.
