The Players of 2009/10 : Shane Clarke

If there was a poll to decide whom got the most abuse from fans during 2009/10 then the winner by a country mile would be Shane Clarke. To be fair, I'm not going to join the "Shane Clarke is crap" bandwagon and no-one can deny that he doesn't try his hardest, but much like Butcher, the game just seems to pass him by.

If there's one player who never really justified his place in the squad then it was Shane Clarke. Don't get me wrong, I can think of numerous worse players that have played for us this season (Khano Smith and Anthony Pulis popping straight to mind), but if I was to count the positive contributions that Shane Clarke made to the side, I wouldn't get off of one hand and would more than likely still have fingers free.
That's the problem, Clarke made no impact whatsoever. He was just one of those players you had there to be able to have 11 men on the pitch. If you were going for a victory or to pull level then he would be pretty much last on your list. I appreciate he tried his hardest, but he just did absolutely nothing whilst he was on the pitch.
With him being on a transfer list you would be surprised to see him in the starting line up again, and it's hard to imagine him ending up at a professional club.

Maybe at a lower level it will free him up to play a bit more. He tended to remind me of Nathan Brown; never quite good enough, but somehow played in three quarters of games because he was second best in 3 different positions.
